Interactive 3D visualisation with Sketchfab
For a long time, it has been challenging to produce high-quality, real-time 3D visualisations due to the need for advanced hardware and software. However, recent developments in web technologies, such as WebGL, have made it possible to display complex 3D visualisations with a level of realism that was previously unattainable. The rendering of 3D data is now a manageable technical challenge.
However, challenges emerge when the displayed object (e.g. products, machines, vehicles, etc.) should also be interactive and supplemented with additional information and functions. The high development costs required for a corresponding interactive 3D framework often represent a hurdle for companies.
Sketchfab—a cheap alternative
Our partner Sketchfab offers a cost-effective option. Thanks to various SaaS licence models (Software as a Service), companies can access a wide range of features that have already been developed, depending on the desired application scenario.
Integrating your own 3D models is a straightforward process: Simply upload the 3D model to Sketchfab, add the required information, and then integrate the Sketchfab player into your website using an iFrame. The process is just as intuitive as you would expect from popular video platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo.
Extensive integration options
Integration by iFrame is the simplest option, and thanks to a wide range of API functions, seamless integration is also possible. In this case, the Sketchfab platform only serves as a hosting and framework platform in the background, but is not visible in the frontend on the company's own website. This allows for completely interactive user scenarios to be developed, enabling users to discover and experience products in a new way. The repertoire ranges from interactive product presentations to comprehensive product configurators, for example for an eCommerce shop.
Multi-channel asset management
In addition to classic visualisation in the desktop browser, Sketchfab also offers the option of displaying the models in AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) in the Enterprise licence. This function can be accessed directly from the browser on the latest smartphones/tablets, eliminating the need to install a native app. This also means that no separate development costs are required.
